This northwesterly sea and swell will decrease to 7- to 9- feet (with a 7- to 14-second period) on Sunday, further lowering to 4 to 6 feet (with an 8- to 17-second period) on Monday through Tuesday. Combined with the northwesterly swell will be 2- to 4-foot southerly (315-degree, shallow-water) seas Monday night into Tuesday. A 6- to 8-foot northwesterly (310-degree, deep-water) sea and swell (with a 5- to 14-second period) is forecast along our coastline on Wednesday. A 5- to 7-foot northwesterly (300-degree, deep-water) swell (with an 8- to 18-second period) is forecast along our coastline next Thursday and Friday. ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS: Fresh to strong (19 to 31 mph) and at times gusty Santa Lucia (northeasterly) winds, especially in the coastal canyons, gaps and passes during the night and morning, shifting out of the northwest and increasing to strong to gale-force (25 to 38 mph) levels during the afternoon will continue through Sunday morning. These winds will produce mostly clear skies with cool mornings and mild afternoons. Daytime highs are forecast to reach the low to mid-70s in the coastal and inland valleys and high 60s to the low 70s along the beaches. Overall, daytime temperatures will hover between 5- and 10-degrees above-normal. A weak trough of low-pressure will develop along the West Coast next week and will produce gentle to moderate (8 to 18 mph) northwesterly to southerly (onshore) winds Sunday afternoon through Monday. This condition will produce increasing marine low clouds with areas of fog and mist. An upper-level low-pressure system (538 dm) 300 miles to the west of San Luis Obispo is forecast to produce increasing southerly winds, clouds and a chance of rain south of the Point San Luis Lighthouse on Monday night through Wednesday morning. Fresh to strong (19 to 31 mph) northwesterly winds will follow on Wednesday afternoon and night, decreasing on Thursday. NOAA's Global Forecast System (GFS) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) models are predicting rain next Friday and Saturday. The barometric pressure reading of 30.88 inches at Wilmington NC was February record for that location. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data) 2016 - Another intense mid-latitude Pacific storm produced huge waves along the northwesterly shores of Hawaii last Wednesday with significant swell heights reaching over 26 feet with a 19 second period. 2017 - Around a tenth of inch of rain and a dusting of snow on the higher peaks were reported last night throughout our area as cold upper-level low-pressure system moved through the Central Coast. Adelaida had the most at 0.38 of an inch. ======================================================================== This weather forecast is a service provided by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to our energy customers.
